Mission

To enhance the lives of people with developmental disabilities and their families through the game of hockey. The Montgomery Cheetahs are a special needs group of children who learn life and social skills through the game of hockey. Comprised of children with autism and other developmental disabilities, the Cheetahs practice each week, from September to April, at Cabin John Ice Arena. They are supported by volunteer coaches and nearly 150 middle and high school-aged mentors form the surrounding area schools, who share their time and skills.

How Donation Will be Used

100% of the money raised from the event will fund ice expenses and programs during the year. The

Cheetahs pay nearly $ 50,000 annually to cover ice time alone, plus locker room rentals, uniforms, equipment, and travel assistance to tournaments.

Description of Event

This is the Cheetahs annual END-OF-SEASON celebration with an afternoon of food, music, raffles, and silent auctions and, of course... SKATING. We are having a Parade of Mascots, that will include the mascots representing the local schools to which our mentors belong to.

We will also have a Mentor vs Coaches game.

This is an organization that is 100% supported by volunteers. Some of the coaches don't have kids with developmental disabilities, but still show up every week with a smile on their face and a kind word for everyone. We don't have any paid employees, because every penny counts to make sure we provide a space for children and young adults to learn the game of hockey in a safe and supported environment. We would also like to expand the program so we can begin to accommodate the ever-growing waiting list, currently at 30 families.
