Since 1985, Schurig Center for Brain Injury Recovery continues to be the only charity in our area offering an array of supportive services to help people rebuild their lives after a brain injury.

It is estimated 1 in 3 people will experience an acquired brain injury in their lifetime. Brain injury has many causes, and it can happen to people just like you and me…

• Jeff, a father and husband in his mid-40s who suffered a stroke while running.
• Mary, a grandmother who lost oxygen to her brain from a heart attack.
• Diane, a mother whose life was changed by a concussion from a car accident.
• Scott, a veteran who sustained multiple traumatic brain injuries.

When a person goes through a brain injury, it’s life changing, and it can affect everyone in their life. It’s like hitting a pause button on life. Having a place like Schurig Center is critical to being able to press ‘play’ again. The healthcare system provides only limited support for patients. Schurig Center helps people continue their recovery by offering therapeutic classes, brain injury education, and support services for survivors and their family members. This year, these programs will help over 500 people adapt to life changes and feel less alone after a brain injury.
