Description

Our Ride Theme Continues: A Ride for Ride, A Run for a Ride, A Walk for a Ride… well two rides! You ride, You run, You walk... they ride, everyone rides!

How It Began:

Wear Yellow Nebraska's purpose from the very beginning was to bring people passionate about cycling together to celebrate life and fight cancer. The local Wear Yellow Ride was first organized by Mike and Stacy Buckley in 2001 as a way to rally the Omaha community in riding for a good cause: their entry into the prestigious Austin LIVESTRONG Challenge. As passion for the cause grew and more people got involved, the group's focus started to shift inwards, and they made the decision to form a nonprofit organization and keep the funds from the annual event in Nebraska to support cancer survivors in our own community.

Wear Yellow Nebraska officially became a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in 2009 with a focus on funding niche initiatives that offer cancer survivors support in ways that aren't already being addressed and for people who would otherwise fall through the cracks, truly caring for people on an individual level.

THE WEAR YELLOW CAB RIDE PROGRAM
As a cancer survivor, co-founder and past president Mike Buckley had the idea to start funding cab rides for cancer patients in Omaha who were without access to transportation, a need he discovered during his own treatment journey. Access to rides to and from treatment are essential because patients are in a weakened state and often times left unable to drive themselves. Even if patients do have family and friends who can help, they aren't always available. Lack of transportation leaves these patients vulnerable to a lapse in vital medical ca re. The annual Wear Yellow Ride turned into a way to fund vita l transportation by providing free cab rides to cancer patients in need, and the cab rides remain our primary program to date. Since launching our free cab ride program, Wear Yellow Nebraska has spent more than $45,000 dollars in providing more than 2,500 cab rides to patients in need.

Fun Run & Walk at 10:00AM
With the success of last year’s inaugural run, we’re excited to host our non-cycling friends again. Those who come out to the Wear Yellow Ride to support their cyclists and enjoy the event can once again lace up their walking/jogging/running shoes to help their fellow Nebraskans in the fight against cancer. The Fun Run & Walk will follow an approximate 3.8 mile course from the SAS Museum through the wide open spaces of Mahoney State Park. For those who want a little competition, the event will be (non-chip) timed. A Power stop will be included at the half way point.

Run/Walk Route: www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/603885868

The event ends at 1:00PM (courses and on course support, Expo Area, Power Stops and the Pancake Man all close at this time). Please choose a route that you can complete by this allotted time.

Fundraising Options:
We’ve now made fundraising even easier! I mean, doesn't this site look awesome? For this year's event we've added the fundraising option for individuals or teams. While not required, if you are interested in raising money for a great cause, click to start your own fundraising today. (Also see Fundraising Tips)

Virtual Riders:
Maybe you don’t ride a bike, run, or like to go on adventure walks but know someone who does. Maybe you can’t participate this year but still want to support our cause. We’ve made that easy too! You can help support Wear Yellow Nebraska by registering as a Virtual Rider/Runner/Walker. You don’t have to actually ride, run, or walk, just support our organization and our event participants virtually.

The fee for Virtual Riders/Runners/Walkers is $30. And just like our other participants, you will be making a difference. The fee for each virtual rider also supports one cab ride through our Wear Yellow Cab Ride Program for a cancer patient who may not have adequate transportation to get to their treatments. Virtual Riders will also have the same fundraising opportunities as our event participants, including setting up your own fundraising team. You can register to become a Virtual Rider at any time up to the day of the event.

Proceeds:
Your participation is making a difference. 100% of our proceeds support Wear Yellow Nebraska’s cancer fighting and cancer patient assistance programs. This event specifically supports the Wear Yellow Cab Ride Program (see www.wearyellownebraska.org for more details).

Registration is open until the morning of the event on May 14th. Registrations taken after May 1st will not be guaranteed an event t-shirt. The fee the day of the event is $40, however, event t-shirts will not be provided.

You can also register in person at packet pickup (event t-shirt not guaranteed).

Packet Pick Up: 6-8PM on
Tuesday, May 10th @ The Bike Rack - Pioneers BLVD, Lincoln
Wednesday, May 11th @ Trek Bicycle Store - Jones St.
Thursday, May 12th @ The Bike Way - Industrial Road

We encourage you to pick up your packet at one of these times. This allows you to have more time to get yourself ready the morning of the ride. You must pick up your own packet in person, as we will have you signing a waiver.

If you are unable to make it to one of these dates, you can pick up your packet the morning of the ride. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your rollout time.

This is a rain or shine event and no refunds will be given.

Raffles
Everyone loves a raffle, and this year we’ve gone even bigger!

Bike Raffle
The 2016 Raffle Bike is the Matte Black 5 by State Bicycle Co. with a little Wear Yellow Nebraska Flair... but not too much flair! It's a single speed with a flip flop hub and it rides very smoothly... not that we've tried yet. Purchase your raffle tickets when you register or at any of the events leading up to the event.

Legendary Raffle:
The Legendary Raffle gets its name from the legendary items that have been up for the taking over the past five years. It will start at 12:00 PM. We encourage you to browse our collection of amazing raffle packages. Raffle tickets can be purchased and placed in the package bucket of your choosing. Purchase as many raffle tickets as you like to increase your chance of winning that package.

Post Ride Event:
Take your helmet off and stay awhile. Riders are encouraged to stick around after the ride for breakfast by the Pancake Man, our legendary raffle, and dozen of door prizes. Each paid registration will be granted free access to the museum following the event. If you have hungry family or friends who did not ride or run, they can purchase a breakfast from the Pancake Man for $5 each.

Power-Stops:
Need some food? Need some drink? Need some power? We’ve got you covered! All rides are on public roads and the fun run/walk is on the trail through Mahoney State Park and all are fully supported with water, Gatorade, and a variety of energy foods at our Power-Stops. Check the course map for Power-Stop locations, restrooms, and scenic vistas along your route.

On-Course Support:
Your bike is in great hands. Trek Bicycle Stores Omaha/Papillion, The Bike Way, and The Bike Rack are on board when you need support. They will be providing mechanical assistance to riders at various locations throughout the day to keep you rolling to the finish.
