ABOUT THE CROHN’S & COLITIS FOUNDATION OF AMERICA
The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) is the leading nonprofit organization aimed at improving the life of and finding a cure for the 1.4 million American adults and children living with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, chronic and often debilitating digestive diseases. CCFA is a 501c3 charitable Foundation. Our tax ID number is 13-6193105. Local sports legends such as Rolf Benirschke, Charger’s Hall of Fame inductee, and Carrie Johnson, Olympic Kayaker, have battled these diseases.

What are Crohn’s and colitis?
Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are painful, unpredictable diseases that attack the digestive system.  Crohn's disease may attack anywhere along the digestive tract, while ulcerative colitis inflames only the large intestine (colon).  Symptoms may include severe abdominal pain.  Some 1.4 million American adults and children suffer from Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, with as many as 150,000 under the age of 18.  Most people develop the diseases between the ages of 15 and 35.

WHERE THE MONEY GOES
Together, we can make possible many programs and services that improve the quality of life of all inflammatory bowel disease patients. Your support gives hope to the many children and adults who are living with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

  • CCFA is committed to funding the best IBD research anywhere in the world and has invested more than $150 million in research since 1967.
  • CCFA receives about 250 grant applications each year and funds approximately 100-180 investigators annually. Many of these researchers are right here in San Diego
  • CCFA hosts a variety of educational programs throughout the year for patients and professionals, including educational teleconferences/webcasts, podcasts, and its annual professional conference.
  • Local children with IBD are able to attend a specialized summer camp to gain understanding, meet other kids who are battling the same diseases, have the time of their life and learn that these diseases do not define them.
