Description

The theme of The Federation of Community Social Services of BC's Emerging Issues Conference & AGM is new approaches to working in the community social services sector.

How can organizations hire, retain, and supervise across generations? How can we use our organizational brands to recruit young talent? How can we strengthen relationships and work better with our allies and partners?

This conference will take a deeper dive into these issues and provide tools and techniques to help us work through the challenges we face and build a more vibrant and sustainable community social services sector in BC.

The event will also include a Silent Auction to raise funds for the FCSSBC Youth Education Bursary* and a working reception hosted by our FABP insurance partners, Schmunk Gatt Smith and Associates.

We are very pleased to announce presentations from the following people and organizations:

  • Bill Scott and Kathy Archer of Magnetic Workplaces will be hosting a workshop called Bring Back the Joy: Leading Millennials and Gen Zeds
  • Rick Pasin and John Thornburn from Sincron HR will be presenting on Driving Recruitment through Branding
  • Kelly Terbasket, Program Director at IndigenEYEZ will speak to us about Creative Empowerment and Indigenous Youth
  • Neilane Mayhew, Deputy Minister, is pleased to share the vision for change and transformation of the new Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions Strategy.

*The FCSSBC Youth Education Bursary was established by Federation members in 2009 to encourage and support young people to develop a career in our sector.  The bursary program supports young people 30 or younger who either are or have been in care and who want to pursue post-secondary education towards a career in human social services. Students are welcome to apply over multiple years as we share a long-term interest in their studies and development into social service professionals.  Your donations make an impact!  Since 2009, the bursary program has awarded $162,000 in bursaries to 144 recipients to help students with the financial costs of tuition, books, and supplies for post-secondary study.
