Posse was founded in 1989 because of one student who said, “I never would have dropped out of college if I had my Posse with me.” That simple idea of sending a group of students to college together to act as a support system for one another was the impetus for a program that, today, has become one of the most comprehensive college access programs in the United States. Since opening its doors in 2002, Posse Los Angeles’ partner institutions have awarded more than $147 million in scholarships to 990 outstanding leaders. This fall, over 100 new Scholars will matriculate to our ten partner universities across the country and go on to graduate at an incredible rate of 90 percent—far above the national percentage of 60 percent.

Our annual Alumni Holiday Party brings together individuals from across the country that have successfully matriculated through our scholar programming and have gone on to make a difference in their communities. This is the first year since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic that we hope to bring this event back in person. At this event we use a fundraising raffle that helps us raise funds used for future programming that ranges from our pre-collegiate training, to on-campus programming, and career workshops. Not only does this event provide us with the opportunity to celebrate our alumni who are out in the world doing amazing things, but make sure that Posse can continue to provide life changing leadership opportunities.
