Every year, one teacher from each of the district’s 74 campuses is nominated by their administration and peers. These individuals are honored not only for their excellence in education but for also serving as inspiration to their students, colleagues and the Plano ISD community. On May 12 at Plano Event Center, 1,100 teachers, district staff, community members and businesses will come together to celebrate these well-deserving nominees at a gala where the top 10 Excellence in Teaching honorees and the Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year winners will be announced. 

In its 44th year, the Plano ISD Teacher of the Year Program has become an integral part of the district’s culture. Not only does this recognition program serve as an important retention tool for teachers, but it also gives the district and its teachers a platform to share the message of the importance of public education. It gives teachers a voice to thank the community for continued support and to share their perspective on the future of students and our classrooms.
