Description

The Parent Teacher Student Association at John R. Lewis High School (JLHS) seeks partners as we plan for the graduation of the Class of 2023.  We rely heavily on community investment to make the alcohol and drug-free All Night Graduation Celebration (ANGC) for graduates happen.  This party is a tradition for schools throughout the country, as teen driver accidents -- especially those involving alcohol -- skyrocket during prom and graduation season.

JLHS is located in the heart of Springfield, Virginia. Compared to other high schools in the Fairfax County Public School system, John R. Lewis High School:

Has the smallest student body
Is one of the most racially and culturally diverse in Fairfax County
Has more than half of all students eligible for free or reduced meals

As a result of our limited size and economic constraints, the Lewis HS PTSA’s comparative reliance on outside support for this event is much heavier than for other high schools in FCPS.

Our JLHS Senior Class Students, Teachers and Staff (and Parents!) are all working hard to catch up from COVID-related learning and fundraising losses, and ensure that all Seniors graduate on time this year.   June seems a long time away, but we that businesses receive many requests for donations to worthy causes, and we hope to put this one on your radar for consideration.  This year’s Celebration will be held at The St. James in Springfield.  Your contributions will help to defray costs and ensure ticket prices remain reasonable (so that ALL Seniors can afford to attend) would be greatly appreciated.  We welcome all “in-kind” donations that can be used for door prizes and/or to defray costs of food and drink or in general to generate interest in attendance at the event.

All donors will be thanked by letter, tax-deductible receipt, in the Springfield Reporter and Springfield Connection Newspapers and during the All-Night Grad Celebration, itself.  All donors will also be displayed on our website from the time of donation until Fall 2023, and will appear in signage, fliers and email blasts to the entire school (student and parent emails).

Many of our Seniors will be college bound, but a significant number will go directly into the workforce after graduation.  Their successes will ultimately be ours, as a community and as a country.  We hope you can help us to ensure that we can continue an important tradition of celebrating our Seniors in a manner that ensures their safety and well-being.
