Description

One of the most important events that we hold annually is our Batizado (induction & graduation ceremony.) This year’s event will take place May 4-7, 2023. It is the point in the year where the new members will be baptized officially into the group and receive their first cords and where the other members, depending on their progress, will receive a new one. The batizado welcomes new students into the school and strengthens community bonds. Additionally, this year we are hosting the inaugural ACDC Capital Games where students from all over will compete to become champion and prepare for the International Games in Brazil. We hold a raffle fundraiser and we are hoping to attract more raffle ticket buyers with better prizes.

CAPOEIRA (pronounced ka-poo-eyh-rah) is an Afro-Brazilian martial and art self-defense form that brings together fighting techniques, acrobatics, dance, percussion, and songs, in a rhythmic dialogue of body, mind, and spirit. ACDC aims to provide all participants, regardless of socioeconomic status, identity, or ability, to learn the art of capoeira with a view to using the practice as a tool for individual and communal growth.

The mission of Abada-Capoeira DC is to promote, spread, and support Brazilian arts and culture through the practice of capoeira, and to use our practice of capoeira to build a healthy and more closely connected DMV community.  We are organized to accomplish charitable and educational goals including working to lessen socio-economic inequality. Abada-Capoeira DC is recognized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
