Who We Help

There are nearly 50,000 children being raised by relatives in the Atlanta Metro Area. Grandparents and other relatives step in to raise children usually because of some traumatic event that occurs suddely and without preparation. Unlike children in foster care, these kids in relative care have the advantage of being with people they know and who love them, but the caregivers are seldom prepared for this responsiblity. These families face a unique set of challenges that can make it difficult to provide the care and support their children need. Grandparents are often older, living on fixed incomes and have health issues of their own that make it difficult to meet the demands of parenting a second time around. Many grandparents are living on fixedincomes or have limited resources, making it harder to provide for their grandchildren's basic needs. Grandparents often also face emotional and psychological challenges as they navigate the complexities of caring for their grandchildren, including feelings of loss, grief, and stress. Given these challenges, grandparents who are raising their grandchildren often need help and support to ensure that they can provide the best possible care for their grandchildren.
