Description

The Hoboken Charter School is a service learning environment where the students bring the community into the classroom and extend the walls of the classroom into the community. Students at HCS identify community problems; design, implement and evaluate action plans; and engage in ongoing personal reflection. Through these experiences, students become active, contributing members of the school
community, the City of Hoboken and the world beyond.

The primary mission of this year's Gala & Auction is to help fund key facilities upgrades to improve the air quality throughout the HCS campus, in addition to the other initiatives that the FoHCS traditionally supports (e.g., technology purchases, staff training, accessibility of enrichment activities, etc.).

You may not be aware that charter schools, although free public schools, are not completely funded by taxpayer dollars. Funding to charter schools is carved out of the public district budget and as such, we are expected to do more with less. Hoboken Charter School’s per pupil spending is approximately 30% lower than of the district schools.

Fundraising is essential to our success and your donations make a difference! All money raised goes directly to supporting HCS and its mission.

In addition to facilities upgrades donations support activities like:

• Participation in the NJ Stock Market game - our 4th graders won 1st place for the Northern NJ division!

• Participation in the Technology Student Association conference competitions - 4 of our middle schoolers took home awards last year.

Our high schoolers are even more impressive. Last year’s graduating class of 25 students:

• Acceptances into over 60 colleges, such as Barnard, Bucknell, Ohio State, and Clemson

• Earned over $2.4M in scholarships

• Our valedictorian went on to Barnard College this fall, with a full semester of college credits under her belt

Thank you for showing your support for the Hoboken Charter School!
