Description

The North Texas Walk for Apraxia is a walk and family-fun day to increase awareness of childhood apraxia of speech (CAS), celebrate Apraxia Stars (children with CAS) and raise funds for Apraxia Kids, the national non-profit for children with CAS. Each year, approximately 50 Apraxia Stars and their families (attendance ranges from 200-400) attend the Walk, which also includes carnival games, food, a silent auction and a special ceremony in which each Apraxia Star is called to the stage by name and presented with a medal. Apraxia Stars work hard each and every day to do something most of take for granted - talk. These children understand what is being said to them, but do to a neurogenic speech sound disorder, they struggle to produce speech clearly. Many of the Apraxia Stars list the Walk as one of their favorite days of the year and it is much anticipated!

In-kind donations are auctioned in the silent auction, with all funds going directly to Apraxia Kids. Donors are recognized in social media posts and throughout the Walk event.
