Description

I am pleased to announce that the Apraxia Kids annual Walk for Apraxia will take place on Saturday, October 21st at Faust Park.  As a member of the St. Louis/ St. Peters community, I am writing to ask for your consideration of an in-kind donation to this year’s Walk.  In-kind donations help our organization offset expenses that are incurred so that funds raised are invested back into services for our families

Over 150 participants are expected to join us at this year’s Walk to benefit Apraxia Kids, the leading organization dedicated to supporting children with apraxia of speech and their families.  Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a challenging and complicated speech disorder that makes it difficult or impossible to accurately produce sounds, syllables, and words. The Walk for Apraxia is a celebration of children with apraxia, our Apraxia Stars, and the hard work they put in every day to find their voice. The Walk also provides an opportunity for local families to come together, to educate the community, and to raise awareness, all while raising funds to benefit the programs and services of Apraxia Kids.

When you donate to the Walk for Apraxia, you are supporting a day of joy and celebration for children with CAS who work so hard every day to find their voice. You are showing parents in your community that you care and support their families. We need your help to make walk day special!

My son, Chase, is 11 years old and is a sixth grader. He started speech therapy at 17 months old and had the “vocabulary” of a 4-month-old.  He was diagnosed with Apraxia of Speech at three years old and at 4-year-old had only a handful of words and they were all approximations.  For example, mommy was me. Chase has speech therapy 6x a week as well as Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy.  Chase started Kindergarten with very few words and a device to “talk” for him.  We were able to utilize the services of Apraxia Kids and find a Speech Therapist that specialized in Apraxia.  This was a life changing moment for Chase.  His speech has drastically improved.  He will talk your ear off about anything science and his hypotheses.  While he is still very difficult to understand, his progress is amazing.  Because of Chase and other families going through this journey, I am coordinating the St. Louis Walk for Apraxia. The walk is a great event that raise awareness, brings families together to support each other and show all the kids with apraxia of speech that they are not alone. They are all stars!

Thank you in advance for your generosity.
