Description

Open Door Sports (ODS) is having a Silent Auction March 9th-16th. Funds from the auction allows ODS to continue providing adapted sports programs to children and young adults with disabilities free of charge.

To familiarize you with us, ODS was founded in the fall of 2016 to fill a gap in after-school offerings for children who are often missed - kids with disabilities and kids struggling with a lack of financial resources. ODS currently provides adapted soccer, basketball and bocce programs to children with disabilities at 10 regional middle and elementary schools in an after-school format with the support of a large network of middle and high-schooled aged volunteer peer buddies.  Cumulatively, we have served over 1500 children with special needs, over 2000 volunteer peer buddies and 835 children from low-income homes since inception. Supporting Open Door Sports allows us to work with these kids and provide the programs free of charge, eliminating any financial barriers to participation. We would be extremely grateful for this donation and would identify this contribution in event communications to over 1500 mostly local supporters.

Starting this winter we are launching a new program providing sports programs to young adults with disabilities. Knowing that as the children that we serve age out of our programs they lose access to after school programming and their vibrant school communities, adding this new initiative has been a priority for ODS.

All ODS programs are focused on serving kids and young adults with disabilities including Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Down Syndrome, ADHD, and other intellectual or developmental disabilities. Whether a physical or intellectual disability, Open Door Sports sees the potential in everyone and welcomes all into its programs. ODS has never turned anyone away, for any reason.

This video, created by Sarah Albus, the founder and Executive Director, highlights our soccer, basketball and bocce superstars and will give you a good sense of ODS.
