Every year the Redondo Beach Public Library holds a Summer Reading Program (SRP) for adults, teens, and children to promote the value of reading and keep our community’s young people engaged in their learning. It is also a way to bolster their reading skills during the summer break from school and begin the next school year without any substantial summer learning loss.

Last year we had our first fully in-person SRP since 2019 pre-COVID with over 1,700 participants. Community business coupons and other assorted prizes were given to all children and teens for their participation and over 400 children and teens received a book to take home!

This year we are excited to conduct a fun and exciting Summer Reading Program. The theme for this year is Read, Renew, Repeat with a focus on reading as a restorative activity, fostering self-improvement and self-preservation. It will last for 10 weeks from June 8th through August 17th. Children will earn a prize for every 5 hours they read and teens will earn a prize for every 10 hours they read up to 25 & 50 hours respectively. They will also have chances to be entered into our opportunity drawing at the end of SRP by completing other activities like visiting the library, telling a librarian about a book they read, checking a book out, etc. We look forward to helping the children and teens of the Redondo Beach Community further their love of reading!
