About Labrador Rescuers

Labrador Rescuers (LR) is a 100% volunteer-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 2004 to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome stray, abandoned and unwanted Labrador Retrievers and Lab mixes, including shelter dogs and dogs relinquished by their owners because of age, health, financial or other reasons. LR is known for rescuing dogs who have medical, surgical and other special needs that shelters, other rescues or owners are unable or unwilling to address. LR provides for those needs with the goal of making it possible for each dog to be adopted into a loving forever home. LR has saved over 5600 dogs since its formation. LR operates three programs:

The Three Rs (Rescue, Rehabilitate, Rehome). LR rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes stray, abandoned and unwanted dogs, with the goal of saving as many dogs as possible from overcrowded shelters, abandonment and potential euthanization.

Second Chances for Senior Dogs. The shelters with whom LR works know LR volunteers have a very big heart for seniors. LR regularly takes in seniors that other rescues pass by because of age and/or medical issues. For seniors with treatable medical issues, LR provides the veterinary and other care required to restore them to health. They are lovingly cared for in foster homes until they are adopted out to approved forever homes.

Lifeboat Labs Hospice Care. When dogs of any age come to LR with insurmountable medical issues, they are placed on Lifeboat Lab status and lovingly cared for in permanent foster homes. Each Lifeboat Lab's needs, including veterinary and dental care, are provided for during the remainder of his or her life.

LR is recognized as a Top-Rated Nonprofit on GreatNonprofits: https://greatnonprofits.org/org/labrador-rescuers
