Description

NU-HOPE Eder Care Services (NU-HOPE) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides no-cost/subsidized services for seniors in Highlands and Hardee County. The NU-HOPE Golf Tournament is our signature annual event. The event includes a 4-person scramble tournament, and awards luncheon, and a fundraising auction/raffle.

We have proudly served our community for over 45 years. Our goal is to assist seniors to remain living in their own homes and avoid nursing home placement. Services provided include home delivered meals, group dining, bathing, homemaking, transportation, respite, crisis assistance, case management and caregiver support.

With NU-HOPE services, over 400 seniors and caregivers each year are able to safely remain home. Unfortunately, we must raise over $350,000 annually to provide our services. Events such as our Golf Tournament are essential in our effort to raise these funds and to ensure that seniors & caregivers have access to the services and support they need.

Why is this important?

The greatest fear among most seniors is the fear of losing their independence and being placed in a nursing home. Because of this fear, seniors often hide their need for assistance. However, the challenges they face are very real.

Hardee County has a poverty rate of twice that of the national average. This poverty is spread across multiple generations, often limiting the ability of younger family members to assist their older relatives. In Hardee County, there are 915 seniors who have a disability that limits their ability to remain living independently.

In Highlands County, over 41% of all county residents are at least 60 years of age. This ranks us among the top 5 counties in the entire nation. Of these seniors, over 4,600 have Alzheimer’s disease. An additional 8,000 seniors are disabled due to ambulation problems and 7,300 are disabled due to vision and/or hearing loss.

NU-HOPE assists seniors and caregivers to overcome these barriers and obtain the services they need. We hope you will join us in this important mission.
