2nd Annual Diabetes Canada’s Pump Couture Fashion Show
Walk/Run for Diabetes Canada AssociationJun 03, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 9:30 PM
Pump Couture is an empowering fashion show that showcases models living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, seeking to eliminate negative misconceptions surrounding diabetes and promote a new conversation about living with this condition. The show embodies inclusivity, celebrating the diversity of people affected by diabetes in our communities.
The event, hosted at EY Tower, will feature cutting-edge wearable technologies such as insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors, showing how to incorporate them seamlessly into any outfit, particularly during the summer when these devices are on full display.
It's a startling fact that every 3 minutes, one person is diagnosed with diabetes in Canada - that's 640 Canadians per day. Unfortunately, this rate is not slowing down. The stigma surrounding diabetes can be challenging to navigate, particularly with the body image issues that many people face, which can be exacerbated for those living with diabetes.
In addition to raising awareness of this "invisible disease" through our fashion show, funds raised at the event will go towards sending kids in the community to Diabetes Canada's D-Camps program. These medically supervised summer camps offer children living with type 1 diabetes a sense of belonging, building self-confidence, and helping them develop independence in managing their condition. Pump Couture is not just a fashion show, but a celebration of strength, resilience, and community.
