On August 6, 2011, a tragedy shook the military community and Americans everywhere. In a single instance, America lost 30 military service members; 25 American Special Operations personnel, 5 United States Army National Guard and Army Reserve crewman, and one U.S. military K-9– when a CH-47 Chinook helicopter, call sign Extortion 17, was downed in Afghanistan. In the wake of the unimaginable tragedy, a mission was born.

The mission of 31Heroes is to raise money and awareness through social and athletic events to support the families of Extortion 17 and honor their legacy by funding the treatment of traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder.            

This is the 10-year anniversary of the tragedy of August 6, 2011.

The 31Heroes WOD was specifically designed to remember the fallen heroes and honor their legacy of sacrifice. The WOD will take place simultaneously across the globe, in a local gym or a location.  For the athletic community, this is our moment of silence. This is how we remember.

The 2021 Main Event WOD will take place at New Realm Brewing Company in Virginia Beach, VA. We are expecting 500 athletes participating in the event and many more spectators. We are also offering a Kids WOD and will have children’s activities and vendors. Also offered is a 31Heroes special brew by our friends at New Realm.

Once the WOD is completed, there will be an after-party with local band Buckshot and a silent auction. There is no fee to attend.

Partners (WOD is 2 people): Like the warriors of our armed services, this WOD is about working together and accomplishing the mission together. Partner 1 performs the workout listed above.

Partner 2 runs 400m with a sandbag.When Partner 2 returns from the run, Partner 1 will grab the sandbag, and begin their 400m run, while Partner 2 continues the workout where Partner 1 left off.
