Description
Please help support the Hurley Children’s Hospital 34th Annual Benefit Ball by donating to our Silent Auction. In 2014 we raised over $25,000 from the silent auction alone!

For over 100 years, Hurley Medical Center has had a vision; to transform the health of our community and residents. This encompasses many areas of health and well-being. This year, the focus is creating a block of private rooms on the eleventh floor of the Hospital for the Pediatrics Department. Studies show private rooms are extremely important to healing. Private rooms support patient and family care. They give the patient and family a pleasant and personal space, and a sense of having some control over their experiences in the hospital. Other benefits are:
• Private rooms would decrease the number of children exposed to infections that are often identified after being placed in a room with a roommate
• Increase patient flow by decreasing the time in the emergency room or admitting primary care physician’s offices due to waiting for a bed compatibility whether due to sex, isolation or disease management.
• Provides a better healing environment (less noise and movement, culturally sensitive).
• Increases the nursing time spent at the bedside, instead of moving patients because of compatibility issues
• Increases patient and family satisfaction, allowing families to feel more comfortable at a vunerable time
• Provides privacy for crucial care conversations and discussion of sensitive issues with care givers and physicians
• Provides the recommended square footage to care for the patient.

Single rooms do contribute significantly in improving patient’s emotional and psychological wellbeing during a hospital stay. Because private rooms reduce hospital-acquired infections, falls and other clinical challenges, patients in these rooms have shorter stays, which in and of itself is surely and emotional and psychological benefit.

Proceeds from this event will directly support the
“Pediatrics Penthouse” project at Hurley Children’s Hospital.
