Nearly 500 Community Members Expected To Attend and Raise Funds for Children’s Medical Equipment and Therapy Services

WHO: Mariah’s Miracle is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising resources and aid for critical pediatric medical equipment and therapy that insurance will not cover.

WHAT: Mariah’s Miracle will host its highly anticipated 3rd Annual Boots, Bags & BBQ Cornhole Tournament on Saturday, April 13 at Chicken N Pickle in the Westgate Entertainment District. Hundreds of community members are set to team in a high stakes (but friendly) competition to garner aid and boost awareness for pediatric patients in need of medical equipment and therapy services vital for their developmental journey.

WHERE: Chicken N Pickle

Westgate Entertainment District

9330 W. Hanna Ln

Glendale, AZ 85305

WHEN: Saturday, April 13, 2024

Event Itinerary Includes:

Team check-ins begin at 9 a.m.
Bags start flying at 10 a.m.
Live music from Hillbilly Deluxe kicks off at 12:30 p.m.
Championship rounds start at 1:30 p.m.

WHY: From a full vehicle modification for a wheelchair to an adaptive bike to a speech therapy device, medical equipment for pediatric patients can cost anywhere from $1,000 to $15,000. And, that’s assuming a child only needs one piece of equipment or therapy service. With that, families can wait up to a year to learn if insurance will cover equipment deemed time sensitive for a child’s development. Sadly, these requests are often denied by insurance based on a technicality or if the equipment is deemed unnecessary, which in most cases are categorically untrue.

As families are left with out-of-pocket costs, the child’s development journey can evoke more emotional strain or even halt the process altogether.

Mariah's Miracle was created in 2020 as a living tribute to the memory of Mariah DeVries, a pediatric therapist who passed away at the age of 26 from an aggressive form of cancer after the birth of her only child. Since then, the nonprofit organization has raised over $XYZ for pediatric patients across Arizona. This year, their goal is to raise $30,000 during the Cornhole Tournament that will go directly towards medical equipment and therapy services.
