Description

BraveOnes Foundation is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to raise awareness and resources that allow children in need to focus on the joys of being a child. BraveOnes was started by my wife and I, along with our close friends David & Kendra Rosales, in memory of our son Hendrix who passed away soon after his first birthday in August 2017.

Hendrix’s life was short, but filled with immense joy and love from family, friends and healthcare practitioners. Hendrix frequently visited over 10 specialists, attending multiple appointments each week. However, most of his medical care took place at Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) Neuroscience Unit. Through our experience, we discovered that patients of the Neuroscience Unit often have conditions that last a lifetime, such as epilepsy, autism and cerebral palsy, and typically experience regular hospital visits + ongoing medical attention.

BraveOnes Foundation’s primary campaign goal is to help fund a NEW CHOC Neuroscience Unit Playroom for their pediatric patients. As of May 2019, BraveOnes has donated $65,000 towards the $300,000 project, but still has a long way to go. This extensive playroom project includes a full playroom remodel + expansion, wireless EEG testing units, padded flooring for seizure safety, a tactile wall, appropriate play areas for all ages, and more. Currently, children undergoing EEG testing are confined to their hospital rooms anywhere from 24 hours to weeks at a time. This custom space will allow medical professionals to conduct EEG monitoring while children are experiencing the joys of being a child and exploring freedom in the new Neuroscience Unit Playroom.

The CHOC Neuroscience Unit is 1 of only 4 Level 4 Epilepsy Centers in California. In 2018, the Neuroscience Unit completed almost 3000 EEG diagnostic tests, served close to 1200 pediatric patients over 5000+ inpatient days and cared for children with all neurological disorders.

In an effort to raise funds for our CHOC playroom campaign, we are hosting our 3rd Annual Hangout for Hendrix Family Music Festival on Sunday, September 8, 2019, from 11:00am-6:00pm at the Heritage Museum of Orange County in Santa Ana. The Hangout for Hendrix Experience includes live music from local bands, a delicious food truck selection, adult beverages, and family fun activities. In addition, the event will feature a silent auction to help support the playroom project. We are actively seeking sponsors for monetary and in-kind donations. Please note that donations are tax deductible (tax ID #83-1007473) and support BraveOnes Foundation's Campaigns.

If you are interested in providing a silent auction donation or becoming an event sponsor for our 2019 Hangout for Hendrix Family Music Festival, please see contact me with any questions. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. Together we can create childhood joy!
