Description

Our primary program is an annual science and engineering fair, which we have conducted since 1950. The multi day event is designed to expose students and the general community to inquiry based science and design thinking engineering that takes them beyond the classroom and provides them the opportunity to interact with experts in their respective fields (judges). In this regard, they learn to describe their research, explain the methodology they used, present their findings, and field questions about their project. Participants receive feedback from the judges on how the procedures, design, testing, and analysis could be improved so they could adjust their methodology and build upon their research for future competitions or the next year’s fair. As a result of this experience, many participants “catch the STEM bug” and continue to expand their science and engineering education and later pursue STEM majors in college.

This yeasr the event will be held March 12 - 13, 2023 at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Center in downtown Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles County Science Fair offers its services to over 900,000 Middle and High School students throughout Los Angeles County. Participation is open to all students in public, charter, private, and parochial schools.

Evidence suggests that by participating in STEM extracurricular programs, underrepresented communities of students are more likely to graduate from high school, attend four-year colleges, and earn STEM degrees.

According to a recent study, students who participated in extracurricular STEM programs boosted their chances of earning a STEM degree and graduating from high school. The most significant increase in STEM degree attainment, 33%, reflected the group who participated in the longest and most in-depth STEM summer program. The students who attained STEM degrees also increased their post-graduation earning potential by 2-6% (Via Cohodes et. al, 2022).

Los Angeles County Science and Engineering Fair is a non-profit organization that receives all of its funding from donations and sponsorships from people like you.

With your help, we can provide these students with these opportunities.
