7th Annual Texas Trekkers Walk/5K for Pitt Hopkins
Walk/Run for Pitt Hopkins Research FoundationNov 12, 2022 from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM
I serve as one of the foundation board members, but most of all, as a parent of a child with this very rare disorder. We support research dedicated to finding a treatment, and an eventual cure for Pitt Hopkins Syndrome (PTHS) and other similar disorders, such as Autism. This research is funded by generous donations from the community. As such, we are currently seeking help for our 2022 Texas Trekkers Walk/5K for Pitt Hopkins set to take place on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Katherine Rose Memorial Park in Mansfield, Texas. This annual event attracts over 50 Pitt Hopkins families statewide and over 400 community members and advocates of research benefitting the Pitt Hopkins Research Foundation. Our goal this year is to make this a huge comeback event from Covid, bringing everyone back together after several years away. We hope to see so many families and community members back together once again!
Our board and officers are parents and professionals who volunteer their time so that over 94% of funds raised and donated go to finding a cure. Our goal is to find a treatment as quickly as possible that will help give our children higher functioning and fuller lives. Please join us, your donation gives us so much more than an auction item – it gives us hope. I wanted to be able to bring the walk back this year considering the pandemic the last several years and give our community hope! My son was able to be one of the very first to take part in the first clinical trials to take place in humans for Pitt Hopkins Syndrome this past year. We just had our annual national conference, and the research and hope for a better tomorrow for our children is huge. I love my community and have a strong hope that you will back us with this opportunity.
You will have the opportunity to increase your visibility and exposure to thousands of community members via an extensive social media strategy and at-event visibility. Your donation will not only help you build and solidify vital relationships with community leaders but also create an opportunity for all to learn about how your services and products can help and benefit them in their daily lives.
We hope you will invest in the betterment of our children by supporting the 2022 Texas Trekkers Walk/5K for Pitt Hopkins. We would love if you would be a donor this year and let the community know that you are backing us! I am a special education teacher in our community, I do so much here. I live, learn, and teach here! Please help us and donate to our event! We would love to be able to include a donation from you, tying you into our community for our event! Please know that your donation will directly help make this event possible. The money raised from our silent auctions is one of the biggest contributing factors to making our fundraising walk a huge success. Please feel free to contact me if you would like more information on donation and sponsorship opportunities with the Pitt Hopkins Research Foundation. I look forward to hearing from you. We are a 501C-3 organization and your help would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Traci Green

About Pitt Hopkins Syndrome: Pitt Hopkins Syndrome (PTHS) is a rare, neuro-developmental disorder caused by a mutation of the TCF4 gene on the 18th chromosome. It is characterized by significant developmental delays, problems with motor coordination (ataxia) and balance, breathing abnormalities, and seizures. Most individuals with Pitt Hopkins do not develop functional speech. Pitt Hopkins affects all races and both genders equally. Since the gene that causes Pitt Hopkins was only found in 2007, currently there are approximately 1500 people in the world diagnosed with this syndrome, however, we believe there are many more.
