A Homecoming Affair
Gala/Party for The Thursday Club Foundation/ Junior MembershipApr 18, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM
We are writing to request your support for our gala event benefitting Honor Flight San Diego (HFSD), a non-profit organization dedicated to escorting San Diego County veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at the memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice. Through an online auction running April 8-17, 2020 and “A Homecoming Affair” Gala and live auction on April 18, 2020 at our clubhouse in Point Loma, we hope to raise more than $42,000 to provide for two nights lodging and hotel meals for an entire Honor Flight trip. With your help, it promises to be a night to remember.
The Thursday Club was founded in 1921 to promote social, educational, cultural, and civic activities throughout San Diego County. Each year, the Thursday Club Junior Membership supports their heritage of philanthropy by planning a gala event. Since the founding, our Thursday Club groups have raised over 2 million dollars to support local charities. Past beneficiaries include Children’s Legal Services of San Diego, Urban Surf 4 Kids, The Seany Foundation, Shelter to Soldier, and San Diego Adaptive Sports, amongst others. Funds raised by Thursday Club Juniors have transformed many local charities, enabling them to better serve our community.
This year, we are proud to support Honor Flight San Diego. Honor Flight San Diego is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization created to honor America's veterans for their service and sacrifice. HFSD transports our American heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at the memorials built in their honor. This three-day trip is healing for many veterans, and allows them to make connections with other veterans, volunteers, active duty military, school children, scout troops, and a grateful public. Priority is given to senior veterans from WWII and the Korean War, and any terminally ill veterans. Honor Flights are filled with veterans in their late 80’s and older; they have flown several WWII veterans age 100 and older, and one at age 104! HFSD remains committed to thanking our veterans by taking them on Honor Flight while they are still physically able to travel on this cross-country trip. HFSD will continue to take as many WWII and Korean War Veterans from San Diego as are able and willing to travel and hope to move on to Vietnam War Veterans in the future.
We invite you to help us support this deserving organization. Following are ways you can participate:
- Donate an item or service to our online and/or live auction.
- Financially sponsor our event. Examples of financial support include cash donations, table sponsorships and in-kind donations (such as food, beverages, printing, equipment and staffing volunteers).
Your donation is greatly appreciated. In recognition of your generosity, we will promote your business at our event and beyond through event collateral, electronic newsletters, and on our organization’s website as described more fully in the enclosed sponsorship agreement. All donations are processed through The Thursday Club Foundation, our 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization, so your donation will be tax deductible to the full extent of all applicable regulations. We kindly ask that all donations be submitted by Friday, March 27, 2020.
