Description

My name is Kelly O'Malley, and I’m the Executive Director of A Light in Dark Places (ALIDP), a 501(c)(3) non-profit that uses the performing arts to break down the stigma surrounding suicide by encouraging healthy discussion, creating community and offering hope to those affected.

This September marks our 10th annual “Plays for Hope” series at the Stella Adler Theatre in Hollywood. Over two weekends, we present five original short plays—each followed by a Q&A with mental health professionals and a reception to further connection and community. The Plays for Hope series has also been performed in Dallas multiple times, helping us bring these vital conversations to even more communities. We will be bringing this series back to the DFW area in 2026 and continue to engage in outreach online with our Dallas community.

We’ve recently expanded our impact with an interview series (launching in May), one-night performances (cabaret, stand-up, dance), and our first short film, which is entering the festival circuit this year and will soon be available to all online.

With every event, we prioritize safe messaging and include resources from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and mental health professionals.

To support Mental Health Awareness Month this May, we’re hosting an online auction, and I’m reaching out to ask if you’d consider donating an item or experience to help us raise funds.

Our work has been made possible through the generous support of local Dallas (including the Perot in past years) and Los Angeles businesses and notable supporters including Mark Ruffalo, Jack Quaid, Sean Astin, Laura Dern, and Claudia Doumit.

Anything you can give would mean so much—and of course, I completely understand if now isn’t the right time. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions; I’d love the opportunity to connect further.
