A Safer Sky for Migratory Birds: A Night of Art & Advocacy
Gala/Party for Chicago Bird Collision MonitorsFeb 22, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
CBCM is a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) not for profit organization that for more than 20 years has been committed to protecting migratory birds through bird rescue, advocacy and education. The Event, A Safer Sky for Migratory Birds: A Night of Art & Advocacy, will take place on February 22, 2025 and feature local artists. Although CBCM is based in the Chicagoland area, CBCM's work contributes to the conservation of migratory birds across the U.S. and is aligned with nationwide strategies for the protection of migratory birds.
Each spring and fall, millions of migratory birds embark on incredible journeys, traveling hundreds or thousands of miles. Some traveling across the Untied States, while others migrate to U.S. from Central and South America. Unfortunately, the confusing lights and glass designs of many structures in Chicago cause thousands of birds flying through our region to collide with buildings. CBCM volunteers spend the early morning hours of each day during migration rescuing the injured collision victims and recovering and documenting the fatalities. Along with those hurt by window strikes, CBCM rescues hundreds of birds harmed by poisoning, entanglement and other urban hazards.
CBCM also educates the community about bird protection and safety, and conducts presentations and holds events to empower people to create bird-friendly environments.
The protection of migratory birds is crucial because of the vital role these birds play in maintaining a healthy ecosystem. CBCM saves thousands of birds every year, through rescue and education related to preventing collisions. With migratory bird populations in decline, CBCM’s work has become even more critical. The funds raised at the Event will directly contribute to a safer environment for migratory birds.
