Action Raffle at the Karate Tournament
Sporting Event for Action Scholarship FundOct 29, 2022 from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Action Scholarship Fund (EIN 86-2645934) was created during the Covid-19 pandemic to help kids and families fill in the gaps for what they’re not getting in school. We are dedicated to bringing high quality character-based martial arts to communities who need it most, Philadelphia and Camden public schools, and karate students who have fallen on hard times and their families need a boost to get them through without disruption to the children's routines, structure, and education.
On October 29, 2022, Action Karate is hosting a tournament with 26 karate schools in the Pennsylvania and New Jersey areas with over 300 students participating. At the tournament, the Action Scholarship Fund (ASF) is collecting donations from each of the 26 schools in addition to soliciting donations from popular businesses. In the last 6 months, ASF has started 23 karate students on scholarship due to hardships ranging from a single parent newly diagnosed with cancer who does not want her diagnosis to impact her son's ability to grow as a martial artist who has improved in school since starting his training, to a student with muscular dystrophy where karate is actually his life saving activity but his mother is a single parent with extensive medical bills. ASF also has partnerships with programs like Horizons of Philadelphia and Rutgers Future Scholars whose goal is to bring the youth of Philly and Camden out of the cycle of poverty. ASF is providing the enrichment needed to help reach that goal. Doctors recommend two things for our children, to learn how to swim and martial arts. The tournament auction will help ASF reach even more children. Current karate families know the benefits of karate for their own children extend way beyond the act of learning martial arts. It builds confidence and character, morals and self-control, respect and discipline. Martial arts can help every student with exactly what they need. We have found parents of karate students are eager to make it accessible to even more children, and bidding on auction items at a tournament is a great step in helping support the nonprofit.
