Description

Over 117 million people are displaced from their homes worldwide. Thousands seek refuge in Orange County, CA to start a new, productive life in the "famous" United States of America...where anything is possible!  They come with full vetting and background checks with our government's "okay" and want to participate in this republic.

Voice of Refugees serves over 1200 refugees, working alongside 300+ volunteers each year, to help refugees Stabilize, Integrate, and Thrive in their new country. (See below.)

100% of the proceeds from this year's gala will be moved over into programming costs for supporting our newly arrived friends from Afghanistan, Ukraine, Syria, and other places where war and civil instability have pushed them out of their homes.

Help us to raise $125,000 at the VOR Annual Gala at Alta Vista Golf Club on Thursday, September 19 from 5:30 PM. We will learn about the world's refugee crisis, our local response, and how each participant's gifts will directly serve our families.

Thank you for your generous responses!

SIT with a refugee friend to make a difference!

Stabilize: Establish homes (furnishings, locations, budgeting), enroll in school or English classes, connect with social services (which most want nothing to do with and have asked to "pay back" once they get jobs!), and learn how to shop, used public transit, and connect in a new country

Integrate: Once they are stabilized our refugees need to learn how to drive, complete better job applications, enroll in college or trade schools, and develop stronger friendships with people who can help them navigate their new country's customs and cultural norms.

Thrive: Our refugees are now working, in school, and often driving, but now we serve the moms and grandmas who have supported their husbands, older children, and younger children who are the workers and students, We help women learn to drive, do home-based businesses or services them up for success, and to forge relationships beyond their homes. We assist people
