Description

On August 5, 2023  Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area (BBBSBA) will host its Annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Picnic. Every year Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area hosts a picnic for the “Bigs” and “Littles” to celebrate their mentoring relationship.  There will be approximately 200 people attending this year’s celebration. In fact, the Picnic has become one of our most highly anticipated events for all program participants!

Many of our kids are from single-parent homes or live with a non-parent caregiver. Many live below the poverty level, with caregivers struggling to be an active presence while providing financial necessities for their family. Exposed to greater adversity, such as elements of gang activity, substance abuse, and crime, they have the potential for greatness but need a special role model and friend they can trust. We are a lifeline for these kids by providing a special match to help them realize their potential.

Bigs & Littles who attend the picnic are treated to an afternoon filled with good food, fun games, activities, and shared friendship. Thanks to generous local businesses and retailers who donate items, we are able to provide our Bigs & Littles with additional match activities to enjoy during their time together.

To ensure that this year’s event is successful,  we ask businesses to consider donating merchandise or tickets for our celebration to be given away during the raffle.

Your ongoing support will enable Big Brothers Big Sisters to support the mentoring relationships that make a positive, lasting difference in the lives of children in the Bay Area.  For the past 50 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has been serving the needs of the Bay Area community by helping children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with mentors that have a measurable impact.  Compared to their peers, kids who met regularly with a Big Brother or Sister were 46% less likely to use drugs, 52% less likely to skip school, and 4 times less likely to be arrested. We currently serve the Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara counties.
