Description

This year Another Way’s 21st annual golf tournament will take place at the Temecula Creek Inn. A tranquil and beautiful setting in Temecula’s Wine Country. The property has two courses and can accommodate 200 + golfers and a banquet of 300. For the past four years we’ve had at minimum 200 golfers take part in the tournament and about 280 people in attendance at the awards luncheon. Some attendees are guests of our sponsors and some are individuals who are passionate about helping children and adults who have an intellectual and/or developmental disability. Our target audiences include: 1) Businesses who provide services to our clients and understand their needs such as Pathway, Inc.; 2) Foundations that support individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, including California Endowment, Union Bank Foundation and others. 3) Tribes in the region whose missions align with ours. In the past we’ve been fortunate to secure support from San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians and the Augustine Band of Cahuilla Indians.

Another Way’s tournament, now in its 21st year began as a small one-day tourney at a local golf course, complete with chicken sandwiches from Burger King. It is now a two-day gala tournament with a pre-tournament event mixer, breakfast, luncheon, guest speakers and awards ceremony that raises over $150,000. Funds netted by the tournament are used to benefit low-income (meet the federal guidelines for poverty) children and adults who have autism, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and intellectual disability. Our tournament includes a very popular mixer the night before the competition. It is a time for our guest to mingle, meet one another, enjoy themselves and unwind before the big day ahead. The theme for our 21st year is inspired by Cinco de Mayo with sangria and street tacos on the menu and we’re hoping salsa dancers and mariachis. It is truly a fun occasion and sets the tone for the next day’s festivities. It is also a thank you to our sponsors who give generously and care deeply about the lives of people with disabling conditions. Most of our sponsors attend the tournament from Friday thru Sunday. Signage is part of both the Mixer and the tournament.

Funds raised through the Another Way’s golf tournament helps pay for rent, utilities, food, clothing, burials, dental work, eyeglass, wheelchair repairs for children and adults who have an intellectual and/or developmental disability such as down’s syndrome, epilepsy, autism and cerebral palsy. All are low-income and meet the federal guidelines for poverty. All clients are struggling financially due to an emergency such as the passing of a care-giver or a job loss. All interventions are coupled with case management to ensure clients are provided guidance and resources on their way back to financial stability. The overriding goal is "To meet the critical basic needs of disabled children, adults and their families/caregivers so they can focus on achieving longer-term goals that will improve their physical and mental health and help them maintain or obtain safe and decent housing.” An objective is to keep the client’s situation from spiraling out of control and impacting his/her ability to maintain or regain economic, emotional, and social stability. Each client has an Individual Program or Education Plan within these plans are goals related to self-care, home life, communication, personal and emotional growth, social life, work, career, health, and educational goals. Another Way understands, "When fundamental needs are not met (shelter, food, etc.) a person will often temporarily abandon pursuit of a higher stage to have more fundamental needs met." (Maslow) Our intent is to provide our clients with the resources needed to achieve their utmost potential. In addition to helping sustain Another Way’s Safety-Net and Health and Wellness Programs, funds from the tournament also help pay for a portion of the Another Way Coordinator’s salary (Only Paid FTE) and provide training for Another Way’s volunteer Advisory Committee.
