That's right folks...we have another amazing opportunity with Parx Racing to have YOUR hounds race on the horse track! For a $25 donation your purebred Basset Hound or Basset-Mix can participate in the races on the track!

FREE Parking and Admission! FREE Family-friendly activities! Fun for EVERYONE! This event is RAIN or SHINE!

There are three race options this year:

1. PUREBRED BASSET HOUND (72 racing spots available; MUST BE a Purebred Basset Hound to compete in these races)
2. BASSET HOUND MIX (24 racing spots available; MUST BE a Basset Hound Mix to compete in these races)
3. SENIOR HOUND (12 racing spot available; MUST BE a Purebred Basset Hound OR Basset Hound Mix, and MUST BE approximately 10 years old [or older] to compete in this race)

Events Timeline:

• 10:00 a.m. - Gates Open at Parx
• 11:00 a.m. - Registration for competing dogs begins
• 12:05 p.m. - Horse Races starts
• 12:00 p.m. - Family-friendly activities*** begin (food options, vendors with merchandise for sale, raffle baskets, etc.)
• 1:00 p.m. - Competing dogs MUST check in at the registration table by this time
• 2:00 p.m. - Basset Hound Races* begins (the dog races are in between the horse races, exact heat times will be shared with competitors a few days in advance of the event)
• 3:30 p.m. - Derby Hat Contest**
• 3:45 p.m. - Raffle Prize Drawing
• 4:30 p.m. - Basset Hound Races end
• 6:00 p.m. - Horse Races end

Events Information/Requirements

• This event is RAIN or SHINE.
• The entry fee to to participate in the races is $25 per dog (plus service charge from Eventbrite; total is $28.52). With this you and your dog get exclusive access to the track for at least one race* as well as a "swag bag" filled with goodies! This is a tax-deductible donation to Tri-State Basset Hound Rescue, Inc.
• Limited spots are available.
• Competing dogs MUST BE a PUREBRED BASSET HOUND or a BASSET HOUND MIX (all other dogs are subject to disqualification).
• No additional dogs may be present**** at the event outside of the dogs competing.
• *The distance for the races is 100 feet. Some top placing dogs from each race will move onto a final heat to determine the champion. Note: Number of participants in the final races is based on the total number of competitors.
• Owners MUST register their dog via Eventbrite by the deadline of June 4, 2023 at 5:00 p.m., EST (unless all spots are filled prior to this date/time, then online sign-ups will end earlier).
• Owners MUST submit a picture of their dog as proof of breed/age. Email pictures to Social@tristatebassets.org.
• Competing dogs MUST have a current rabies vaccine. Immunization information is REQUIRED. We recommend bringing a digital or paper copy of your dog's current vaccine records to the event.
• Two (2) people MUST attend and supervise the dog during the races (the "Owner" and the "Assistant").
• We ask all owners, assistants and competing dogs arrive by 12:30 p.m. to check-in.
• Dogs MUST BE on a 6 foot leash (NO RETRACTABLE LEASHES) while in the venue (except during designated race times).
• Owners and Assistants MUST sign a release form prior to competing in their designated race.
• **Derby Hat Contest details: Super fun contest to unleash your hatitude! Bring an upcycled hat that you've decorated in whatever lovely lady or dapper gentleman theme you want. Let your hounds wear those floppy hats to show off your creations during the contest in the lower picnic grove before the final Basset Hound race heats. Prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners!
• ***Family Fun Activities: TSBHR will have new merchandise for sale, a raffle table to win prizes, doggy kissing booth. There will also be food and vendors, including: BBQ food options from Parx, Saint Rocco's Treats, and Philadelphia Animal Specialty & Emergency (PASE).
