We're excited to announce our 10th Annual Scholarship Gala, set for April 13, 2024, at the Pomona Fairplex Event Center. This event is not only a celebration of resilience but also a crucial fundraiser, with previous galas significantly contributing to our mission. The evening will feature a silent and live auction, for which we rely entirely on donated items, ensuring that all proceeds directly benefit our program services.

On behalf of the Be Perfect Foundation's Event Planning Committee, we extend a heartfelt invitation to support our 10th Annual Scholarship Gala. Our past nine galas have consistently seen over 750 attendees, each raising over a quarter million dollars for our cause. In our 16-year history, we've raised over $9 million, with 99.9% directly funding our mission to aid the paralysis community, particularly here in Southern California.

Who are we?

 

The Be Perfect foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to provide direct financial and emotional aid to individuals living with paralysis.  BP has changed the lives of hundreds of fathers, mothers, siblings and friends with paralysis by helping to keep them in recovery by purchasing medical necessities, and by providing guidance and emotional support.  Hal Hargrave Jr. created the Be Perfect Foundation in 2007, just a few months after he suffered a life altering automobile accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down.  After recognizing the limitations that insurance companies were putting on some of his friends dealing with paralysis, he resolved to do his part to help them recover.

 

What does the Be Perfect name mean?

 

A scene from the movie “Friday Night Lights” inspired our name.  In this scene, Coach Gaines cast a vision for how a well-lived life should be measured, by knowing that you did everything that you could to strive for perfection.

The Be Perfect Team is a brand of patients and donors that believe that life's value is in how it's lived - Not merely in what is done.  Be Perfect invites those living with paralysis to commit themselves to doing everything they can on their road to recovery as a way of loving themselves, their family, and friends.

At the Be Perfect Foundation, we are committed to serving and supporting individuals within the paralysis community. We understand that paralysis can bring immense challenges, both physically and financially. The cost of essential equipment, supplies, and participation in therapy programs can be overwhelming. That's where we step in. Through our dedicated efforts and the generosity of our supporters, we have raised nearly $10 million to date, specifically for individuals living with paralysis. What sets us apart is our unique approach. With a 100% volunteer staff, we ensure that almost every dollar raised goes directly back to our program services. This allows us to provide financial support for medical supplies, wheelchairs, home and car adaptations, small equipment, and participation in exercise-based therapy programs. Our commitment to serving the paralysis community remains unwavering as we strive to make a positive impact on the lives of those facing these challenges.

Get involved and be a part of the mission! With no board of directors that receives any salary from the foundation, nearly 100% of your dollars are going directly back to helping individuals living with paralysis.  Every donation matters! THE NEED

The Be Perfect Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) with a mission to provide direct financial and emotional aid to individuals living with paralysis. Hal Hargrave Jr. created the Be Perfect Foundation in 2007, just a few months after he suffered a life-altering automobile accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down. After recognizing the limitations insurance companies were putting on some of his friends dealing with paralysis, Hal resolved to do his part to help them recover. Since 2007, the Be Perfect Foundation has provided programs and services for those who are affected by paralysis within the LA County, Orange County, and Inland Empire region. To date BP has raised nearly $10 million for individuals living with paralysis. BP has changed the lives of hundreds of fathers, mothers, siblings and friends with paralysis by keeping more than 350 in recovery, purchasing medical necessities including more than 100 wheelchairs and other medical equipment and supplies, and has provided guidance and emotional support. Be Perfect is a firm believer in exercise and activity, a way of reducing secondary complications after sustaining paralysis. Put quite simply, BP believes that exercise is medicine. The program services that BP provides supports those with their recovery efforts, in a pursuit of keeping those individuals physically fit until the day comes where a cure becomes a reality. With nearly 1.5 million people living in the U.S. with paralysis, there is a continued reason year in and year out for BP to continue to try and raise funds for those who need OUR help with their recovery efforts and in their pursuit to try and regain independence again.

The Be Perfect Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides direct financial and emotional aid to those living with paralysis caused by injury, disease and chronic illnesses.  Ours is one of a few organizations that donate directly to individuals who have needs for household improvements, medical supplies, wheelchairs, and shower equipment.  Our main focus is to provide our friends with the opportunity to receive intense activity-based therapy, knowledge, and the possibility to experience adaptive-type recreational activities. We believe that this type of cutting-edge therapy will reduce secondary complications that typically followed an injury to the spine or brain. Approximately 1.5 million people live with all different ailments of paralysis (Spinal Cord Injury, ALS, PLS, MS, CP, Brain injury, Stroke, Parkinson’s). As you can see, the need for financial support is immense; most people who are living with paralysis additionally struggle with the financial burdens that result. Most insurance companies do not cover all of a patient’s medical needs, and many policies limit payment for rehabilitation sessions and basic medical supplies. On , we will be hosting our 10th Annual Be Perfect Foundation Scholarship Gala,

“PLANES TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES" at the Pomona Fairplex Event Center in Pomona, California. The night will include a silent/live auction dinner, live entertainment, a special presentation, and dancing. The evening will focus on what we have done for our clients and their families and how their lives have been improved.

 

Our last charity event raised over $700,000 with 99% of the proceeds going to our friends who suffer from paralysis and the financial burdens that come with their ailments.  With over 1,200 guests in attendance, our fundraiser was a huge success and allows us to help many in need.  We take pride in the success of our events, but most of our success depends on the support of our sponsors, friends, and family.
