Description

This is a celebration of three years since the founding of 1863FWD Care 2 Care, NFP and the work we have done promoting mental wellness in community, the importance of engaging youth in educational programs and services that empower them to embrace their strengths and culture in light of the movement to change the narrative of American and World History with the contributions of those with African descent.

Chop It Up: We are raising funds to facilitate mental wellness services in barbershops meeting the people where they are engaging them in a group healing experience while providing free cuts and refreshments for 16 and up.

Amani Cultural Enrichment (ACE): It is a an after school or summer program for 7- 16 years old that includes African drumming & dance, mindfulness, deep breathing, psychoeducation on mental wellness, village talk to discuss the impact of violence in their lives, yoga, arts and crafts, games without technology and the inclusion of parents to reinforce the items in the toolkit for the system to gain items of support together rather than to simply "fix" the child.

Underground Railroad (UGRR) Sankofa Educational Tour: This endeavor is an effort to showcase the strength of "freedom seekers" sought liberation from bondage by changing the narrative of people in pursuit of freedom with a guided tour, engagement with wanted posters, newspaper ads, shackles and chains, ship replica and currency used in the trade and those in pursuit of freedom, the break down of codes in gospel and quilt constructions and black history.

We underscore interactively with the many contributions by black and white abolitionists, conductors of the UGRR, and a network of individuals on land and by water that aided people in striving for the essence of their humanity through liberation. The movement to restrict the history of America is a disservice to every citizen of the US and we want to educate the masses one group at a time with local, intrastate, and interstate tours. Sankofa is in homage to the continent of Africa Twi's language "to retrieve" or go back as we endeavor to retrieve the history of us.

Born Queens: A group that supports women and girls in recognizing themselves as Queens reminding them of who they are regardless of how others may describe him. The circle of Queens is the answer to Chop It Up, but with women who bond and connect with activities empowering and mentoring one another while addressing mental wellness and the daily stressors of life.

Circle Back 2 Wellness: A 12 week trauma focused mental wellness group that uses various methods of therapeutic treatment modalities outside of talk therapy using yoga, mindfulness, breathing, arts and crafts, and vision booking as the center of shaping  positive forward moving intentional behavior with goal setting. It is a strength based intensive program that helps participants remember themselves again as children with the spirit of a child being fearless and unapologetic for the plans of their life.

Maggie's Place Memory Cafe: This is a program catered to support caregivers who support those impacted by some form of dementia as a respite program for their needs and active treatment and engagement for their loved ones for a limited period of time for individuals to take an opportunity to shed guilt and make medical appointments for themselves, rest,  run errands, gain individual and group counseling, psychoeducation on managing the complexities of dementia and provide resource connections. The Founder served as a caregiver for 14 years for her grandmother who lived through Alzheimer's and found herself entertaining suicidal ideation, stress and apathy about the future as the disease became more progressive and usurped the needs of the caregiver for the person directly impacted by dementia. Traveled to China as a delegate for Chicago Sister Cities International examining dementia care services, technology, exercise and gardening programs to help sustain s greater quality of life.
