Description
Birdhouses for Fair Housing is a live and silent auction highlighting the work of local artists, birdhouse crafters, building enthusiasts and community advocates that helps support our efforts to eliminate housing discrimination throughout Central and Northern New York. At our last event, we raised nearly $15,000 to help families, victims of domestic violence, disabled individuals, New Americans and others get fair treatment in their search for a place to call home.
In 2023, CNY Fair Housing served 17 counties throughout Central and Northern New York. During this time, our staff completed:
- 94 outreach events that reached 2,900 individuals throughout our service area
- Hosted the first annual Run the Redline 5K event and collaborated to host the first annual CNY Community Housing Fair
- Received 451 complaints of housing discrimination, landlord/tenant issues and other housing complaints requiring referral to community organizations
- Settled a lawsuit alleging housing discrimination against non-English speaking families
