Description

Our Daily Bread Denton County feeds, shelters, and cares for the homeless and at-risk in our community while maintaining the dignity of our guests and offering opportunities for a new start.

Denton County iis experiencing significant population growth; a trend that is expected to continue into the foreseeable future. According to the most recent United Way of Denton County Needs Assessment, Denton County is one of the fastest growing communities in the nation. It is projected that Denton County will triple in size with a population of 3 million in 2050 by the U.S Census Bureau. As the population of our community grows, so do the needs of our most vulnerable. Food insecurity, poverty, and homelessness are prevalent problems across our state and within our community. In the City of Denton, where Our Daily Bread is centrally located, economic hardships are pervasive with a poverty rate that exceeds both the state and national averages. According to the most recent United Way needs assessment, the poverty rate in the City of Denton is 21.3%. We have witnessed, every year, an increase in need among our guest population. Our Daily Bread works diligently to assist people struggling with food insecurity and homelessness by providing a holistic service to improve client’s quality of life.

Our Daily Bread hosts its annual Casino Night. This event allows volunteers, donors, community partners to participate in food, music, and fellowship. In addition, we have both a live and silent auction for our attendees. We use this opportunity to raise funds and promote awareness of food insecurity, poverty, and homelessness. The funds raised are used to benefit clients by providing them a comprehensive service: housing program, case management, meals, on-site doctor, and community resources.

Our Daily Bread was established in 2001 to address food insecurity;  we serve nutritious meals from inside a church.  However, when the population in Denton County grew, so did the need.  The organization witnessed the increase of food insecurity, homelessness, and poverty in our community.  With the support of citizens and community partners, Our Daily Bread has grown into a community organization that provides holistic services to those in need in Denton and neighboring counties.  Now, we do more than just serve a meal, we nourish, shelter, and connect with those in need.  Last year, the organization combined with an emergency shelter and developed a transitional housing program to address the homelessness population.  In addition, we developed several community services to offer stability in clients' lives to move them towards independence.  Our Daily Bread asks for your support to improve the clients' quality of life and create a thriving community.
