About the Cause
We provide wrap-around support, including counselling, support groups/workshops, and accompaniments to court, the hospital, and the police station. We’re available any time of the day or night through our 24-Hour Support Line. We support all genders, 16 years of age and older, who have experienced sexual assault at any point in their lives. We advocate at the individual and systemic levels to create change.

In 2019, the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives named Waterloo Region the least safe place for women to live in Canada, based on police reports of sexual and gender-based violence.

At the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region, the prevalence of sexual violence in our community is undeniable. A day spent in our office reveals this difficult truth. The phone never stops ringing.

Requests for individual counselling at our Centre have skyrocketed in recent years; for the first time in our history, over 200 survivors of sexual violence are on a year-long waitlist for one-to-one care. Despite the significant need, funding has not kept pace with demand.
