Description

The Charlottesville Racing Club and University of Virginia Cycling Club are proud to announce the second annual Charlottesville Criterium and Bike Fest presented by the Dairy Market, which will be held Saturday, April 29, from 10AM - 4PM. A Criterium is a fast-paced bicycle race on a short, closed course for variable amounts of time, dependent on experience level, and will include both amateur and collegiate racers. The event will kick off at 10 AM with a series of free junior races for boys and girls in the 9-14 and 15-18 age groups. At noon there will be a Bike Parade where anyone in the community with a bicycle can join and ride 20-30 minutes on the closed course. This year’s event will play host to the collegiate ACC cycling conference championship, and there will be many family-friendly festival activities at the Dairy Market, including face painting and bike decorating. Following the event, the Charlottesville Ale Trail will host an after-party at Rockfish Brewing on Preston Ave., featuring many of the city's breweries.

Our aim is not only to bring a series of high-quality bike races to Charlottesville, but also fundraise for the local non-profit bicycle shop, Charlottesville Community Bikes. Charlottesville Community Bikes (CCB) promotes environmentally-sound transportation, recycles bicycles, and makes biking accessible to the local community. CCB believes equitable access to affordable, reliable bike transportation can be transformative to people in need. In particular, this event will fundraise for CCB's youth cycling initiatives.
