Following the death of Chase Passauer in 2016, family and friends chose to honor his life and memory by creating two scholarship funds through the University of Minnesota Foundation. In 2017, the first Chase Passauer Memorial Golf Tournament was held, with proceeds going to fund the establishment of these scholarships. The $50,000 law school scholarship goal was met after the 2018 tournament and funding the $25,000 undergraduate education scholarship is a goal for 2022. Direct gifts to the University of Minnesota are still being accepted for both funds.

In 2018, Chase’s close group of friends started the Chase Passauer Memorial Scholarship and took on the emotional but rewarding challenge of choosing several Hastings High School seniors to receive scholarships to further their education. Following another successful tournament in 2019, the CAP Foundation took over funding these annual scholarships, and have awarded $21,000 so far.

In 2020, we did not have a tournament, but we were able to support local restaurants who provided free lunches for children while schools were closed during the pandemic.

The proceeds from the 2021 tournament were used to start an AED (automated external defibrillator) program. We purchased AEDs to place in local businesses and are partnering with the Hastings Fire Department Relief Association to provide AED instruction using a training unit donated by us.

We will continue to listen for the call to support programs that serve education, local community, youth, and families; to help those who help others as Chase would do.
