The Brown Deer Public Library believes in the importance of providing educational and recreational services to our community, as expressed in our mission statement. As part of our commitment to this ideal, we offer a summer reading program each May through August especially tailored for adults, teens, and children designed to encourage literacy and learning through reading and special programming.

This year’s program, themed ‘Choose Your Own Adventure,’ will provide activities with incentives to encourage all community members to keep reading and learning during the sunny summer months. We will be providing programs throughout the months for all ages to attend as well as providing a reading challenge. This challenge gives a raffle ticket to each hour a person reads. At the end of the summer we draw winners from each age group to receive a prize basket.

Your involvement with us in assisting those in Milwaukee County is an opportunity for your organization to receive exposure and to join other individuals, organizations, and coalitions in our community to educate all of those within Brown Deer and Milwaukee County.  Last year we had 765 people sign up for our program, which was a 500% increase from the year prior.  We are hoping to extend our reach to over 1000 this year. Our goal with the summer reading program is to assist individuals and families alike by giving them the opportunity to have fun and stay learning throughout the summer months. 

Community sponsors are the primary source of funding for this event and will help ensure its success.
