City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue in Washington, DC is a nonprofit organization that rescues animals in overcrowded, under-resourced shelters. We are often the last hope for animals, many of whom would otherwise not be rescued due to injuries or other medical problems.

​We rely exclusively on donations to provide critical veterinary care and on passionate volunteers to provide foster homes and operational support. We find loving adoptive homes for dogs and cats in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, thereby enriching the lives of both humans and animals. Every year we run a very successful online auction as we have a great need to boost our program funding to continue saving shelter dogs and cats.

City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue provides care and rescue for over 1,000 dogs and cats each year. It is paramount to the shelters that rely on our help every day to continue our lifesaving efforts so abandoned cats and dogs get a second chance at the life they deserve. Vet care, transportation, and supplies can easily reach $600 per dog/cat, so fundraisers like this are of critical importance to saving lives.

CDCK has a vast following throughout the metro area and beyond. Our work impacts the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern US, and Puerto Rico. In addition, many of our adopters and volunteers reside in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Our Annual Auction has been voted Best Charity Event in Washington City Paper's Readers' Poll five years running: 2019 - 2023. Engagement in our auction benefits our mission while increasing your exposure across the metro Washington, DC area and beyond. Last year our event generated over $75,000 and we are hoping to surpass that number this year. We greatly appreciate any support you can provide.

City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue rescues adoptable cats and dogs in overcrowded and high-kill shelters, where resources are severely limited. We offer a lifeline to as many of these wonderful animals as possible. Sadly, many of the cats and dogs that City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue takes are just days — and sometimes hours — away from being euthanized for no reason other than lack of space. By finding these animals permanent and loving homes in the DC metropolitan area, we can enrich the lives of humans and their pets. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is a "rescue" not a "shelter." We are made up of a network of volunteers (most with full-time jobs) who foster cats and dogs in their homes. Since most of our available animals are living in private homes, we cannot arrange a visit without an adoption application and an appointment with the foster family.

City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue has saved over 10,000 dogs and cats since our founding in 2011.  Every one of them has left little paw prints on our hearts, and we remember all of them fondly.  We have an active alumni community and we're so grateful every time someone chooses to join the City Dogs & City Kitties family.

The City Dogs & City Kitties’ auction showcases artists, restaurants, theaters, and small and large businesses from across the DC metropolitan area and beyond. From vacation packages to wine tastings in Virginia's rolling hills to sessions with expert pet photographers, we offer many items and experiences to enjoy while helping to save dogs and cats from overcrowded and high-kill shelters.
