The Chicago Student Refugee Coalition (CSRC) is a student-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization aimed to help student refugees settle into a new environment during a crucial period in their lives. Student refugees face a unique challenge, as they move into completely different surroundings during their adolescence.

We at the CSRC have had a much different experience than our fellow students; therefore, the best we can do is listen to their stories. Nevertheless, we share the connection of cramming study for tests, struggling with unnecessary homework, and dealing with the overwhelming need to fit in. By building strong relationships among students, learning from each other about our cultures and traditions, we can create a massive impact on the lives of the student-refugee population in Chicago!

On June 18th, 2024 we will be hosting our inaugural gala at Room 1520, located in Chicago’s vibrant West Loop. This gala promises to be an unforgettable evening filled with celebration, networking opportunities, and most importantly, a chance to make a meaningful impact in our community. Join us as we come together to support newcomer students in their transition to their new homes and celebrate the incredible work being done by our student leaders to create positive change.

We are hosting this fundraiser for a variety of reasons.

Raise awareness of the unique issues many student refugees face
To reiterate our previous point, student refugees are faced with unique challenges. Following the arrival to their new homes, many newcomer youth are faced with discrimination due to the intense political turmoil surrounding immigration and asylum in the United States. It is essential to create a safe space, where they are accepted and treated equally. The CSRC will continue to help make Chicago a better place for students of all backgrounds to thrive and feel at home.

Fundraising
All the donations and supplies we’ve gathered could not have come into fruition without the help of the people who believed in the CSRC and our mission. As we plan bigger and more frequent events in 2024, fundraising will be essential to our success in making things happen.

Celebration of our First Year
As you may know, the CSRC was founded in Spring of 2023. Over the last year, we’ve accomplished so much and are extremely happy with the progress, friends, and memories we’ve made. This Gala will serve in part as a celebration to commemorate the CSRCs first year of success!

Day in and day out, the support system around the CSRC allows it to thrive, and for that we are eternally grateful.
