Description

The Ballet Theatre of Boston (José Mateo Ballet Theatre) is dedicated to creating exceptional, culturally relevant ballets that inspire and engage diverse audiences. Our approach to ballet training promotes inclusivity, ensuring that all students, regardless of their backgrounds, have the chance to participate and excel. Through sustainable outreach programs, we strive to make ballet available to individuals from all racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds. Our mission extends beyond performance and education—we aim to redefine the role of dance in society, using it as a powerful tool for youth development and community enrichment, both locally and beyond. Specifically, our ballet theatre holds an annual event called Dance for World Community, a partnership initiative that leverages the power of dance for personal growth, community cohesion, and social change. On Saturday, June 7, we will be having our 15th annual Dance for World Community Festival in Harvard Square, on Massachusetts Avenue between Putnam Avenue and Bow Street. The festival is a free, public, all-day event celebrating the Greater Boston dance community. Dance performances and classes from over 60 local dance companies will take place across outdoor and indoor stages along the street and JMBT studios. Over 20 social justice organizations and non-profits will also be present to raise awareness about important social and environmental issues in our community. Advocacy partners will be set up along Massachusetts Avenue in addition to local artists, businesses, and food vendors. Altogether, by bringing together diverse communities, Dance for World Community raises awareness of dance’s transformative potential on both a local and global scale, fostering stronger connections and inspiring action on social issues that impact us all.

The Ballet Theatre of Boston (José Mateo Ballet Theatre) and its Dance for World Community initiative use sponsorship proceeds to expand access to ballet and dance education, ensuring that students from all backgrounds, including underserved communities, have opportunities to train and excel. Funds support scholarships, inclusive training programs, and the creation of original, culturally relevant ballets that engage diverse audiences. Additionally, proceeds sustain community outreach efforts, bringing dance to schools, community centers, and local organizations while fostering social impact through the DWC initiative. By using dance as a tool for advocacy and change, JMBT raises awareness of its transformative power, hosting events, performances, and discussions that connect dance with activism and community building. Sponsorship contributions also help sustain the organization’s operations, ensuring fair wages for artists, instructors, and staff while promoting a diverse and inclusive arts environment. Through these efforts, JMBT and DWC continue to make ballet and dance accessible, meaningful, and socially impactful.

Additionally, donors will receive valuable marketing benefits such as acknowledgment on the DWC website, social media posts, festival program and flyers, event signage, press releases, and on-stage acknowledgments during the festival.
