Description

Desi Dance Network, Inc. is excited to host the first ever Desi Dance Network Convention (name to be determined soon)! The DDN Convention will invite over 200 artists to take dance classes, watch showcases, sit in on discussion panels, and network with professionals and other aspiring artists!

The Desi Dance Network Convention will feature 3 days of networking, dance classes, panels, and professional development workshops. Hosted in the heart of Atlanta, the national convention seeks to inspire youths nationwide.

This convention will be the first of its kind in the United States-- featuring predominantly professional South Asian performing artists as guest teachers and facilitators. Furthermore, we will invite professionals from various different fields (not limited to only arts) so our convention attendees will be able to continue combining their love for the arts with other fields.

Mission Statement & Vision

Through intersection of performances, arts education, and civil engagement, Desi Dance Network seeks to empower South Asian artists by creating and developing safe spaces for artistic and creative growth. By providing local and national access to workshops, conventions, and competitions, Desi Dance Network exists to combat cultural erasure and challenge the mainstream notions of identity by providing a platform that promotes narratives through Desi (South Asian) dance, music, and arts. South Asian performing arts include, but are not limited to, Bollywood and folk dances, Carnatic and Hindustani music and recitals, and creative film projects that incorporate music and dance.

The mission of Desi Dance Network is to play a leadership role in the performance arts ecology of the Bay Area and throughout the United States by providing access to regular workshops, classes, and performances. Furthermore, Desi Dance Network also attempts to spread South Asian performing arts by hosting national competitions and showcases.
