Description

Transracial Journeys Family Camp 2024 will be located on the beautiful campus of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio for the second year.

If you have never attended this camp, you may ask, “What is Transracial Journeys Family Camp?” Camp is a unique place for learning and discussing the intersecting issues of adoption, race, class and culture, and identity for the whole family. Camp is a place for fun - arts & crafts, playing games, swimming, talent show, campfire, catching up with old friends, making new friends, walks outside, long heartfelt chats, and much more.

Camp is for the whole family - transracially adopted children, biological siblings, and adoptive parents. Camp is a place for parents and children to be in community with other families that mirror each other and counselors who have lived experiences with transracial adoption.

Camp is structured to include learning time, family time, and community time. In the morning and early afternoon, children are with their age-level peers guided by counselors and counselors-in-training to build community and participate in age-appropriate activities related to identity formation, relationship building, and navigating differences . Parents participate in sessions with speakers to dive deep into the core issues of adoption, race, class, and culture to elevate parents’ skill levels to actively address these issues.

In the afternoon during family time, a variety of activities are offered for families to relax and have fun. Everyone comes together for meal times and evening activities to socialize, build community, and enjoy our annual talent show and dance.

By donating to Transracial Journeys Family Camp 2024, you will be providing transracially adopted children and their families an experience and skills to last a lifetime.
