Arizona Golden Rescue, incorporated in March 2009, is a non-profit, charitable organization based in the Phoenix Metro area. We find new homes for Golden Retrievers and Golden mixes that need them. To date, we have rescued 1,164 dogs. Our standard level of medical care for these dogs includes spay/neuter, vaccine update, tests for valley fever and heartworm, and micro-chipping. Our adoption fees do not cover even this level of care, let alone more extensive and expensive veterinary care including leg and hip repair, cancer treatment, heartworm medication and valley fever treatment, all of which we have had to provide for a variety of dogs coming into our rescue program. In fact, in 2021 our average veterinary cost per dog was over $1,165! So far in 2022, due to a lot of very sick dogs entering our rescue program, the average vet cost per dog has skyrocketed to $3,071! Arizona is not an exception to the nationwide trend of more injured and sick dogs being taken into rescue.
