Description

Wesleyan Youth Foster Care Agency Enrichment Program for children to do and see things that they have never experienced.

Dear funder: The enrichment program will allow children that are in foster care to experience museums and zoos for the first time. Museums and Zoos offer a dynamic opportunity to expose children to experiences and explore new things in a rich and educational environment. Through interactive exhibits and hands-on play, children have the ability to take ownership of their own learning and develop and explore their own curiosities. This unique exposure provides the foundation for creativity, critical thinking, and This program will supply families with tickets, materials, and needed support. For more than 50 years, Wesleyan Youth, Inc. has provided quality childcare to the youth of Foster Care Programs are an extension of the agency’s overall program to provide services that meet the needs of children and families. Our mission is to provide a safe, nurturing environment for the children and youth in Oklahoma entrusted to our care. To build self-esteem, assist with education, Improve the quality of life in underserved children, social skills, and life skills so that they may live independent, productive lives as adults. Children who have been exposed to various forms of abuse or neglect often receive supervision and services through the child welfare system. When a child’s family is not able to provide safe and appropriate care for the child, the child is often placed with a foster care family. With approximately 9000 children in Oklahoma’s foster care system, the existence, and operations of the child welfare system as well as the quality of foster homes have been a concern of many citizens, lawmakers, and reporters for many years. This unique program will provide children with knowledge of art and culture. If not for this program these children may never see the many treasures that museums have to offer. This program provides the foundation for creativity, critical thinking, and connection to the world around them. Museums offer cultural experiences that need to be encouraged by foster families. It is so important to introduce children to these enriching outings because museums and zoos open a world of imagination and exploration. It is even more important to introduce children at a young age because our youth is our future and museums broaden our knowledge of the world. These experiences also make memories and family bonding time. The program will spark the child’s curiosity of the world they live in and provide bonding for foster families and foster children. Museums and Zoos primarily serve as tools to motivate learning and address the developmental needs of children. Museums and Zoos are instruments for carrying out the educational objectives and reflect these purposes. Objects may not necessarily have intrinsic value to science, history, art, or culture, and can include constructed activity pieces and exhibit components. The research evidence clearly indicates that children notice differences in race, ability, family composition and a multitude of other factors. Their questions are attempts to make sense of those observations so they can make sense of their own world. By helping children understand and respect similarities and differences you will also help your child to understand who he is in the context of your race, ethnic group, culture, religion, language and familial history. This program will provide your child with personally meaningful information and also introduce concepts from anthropology, history, religion, geography, etc. All funds will be used to buy memberships, and tickets to local zoos and museums that offer an array of education for the children in foster care. Funds will benefit Children and families of Oklahoma Communities. Wesleyan Youth will also provide reports as required by the grantor. We greatly appreciate your foundation’s approach to improving the lives of children in the welfare system. We are hopeful to work with you in the future. Please call or email me at your convenience if you have additional questions or input. We are hopeful you will allow us to apply for funding.
