Description

I would like to take this opportunity to invite Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament to support two of Frontier College’s upcoming signature fundraising events. All funds raised from our annual Giller Light Bash event held in November, and our Scrabble for Literacy event will support literacy programs in Canada. It would be great if you could donate tickets for 2 or 4 people.

21st annual Giller Light Bash: November 2022.

This year, we are hosting an online auction accessible to anyone in Canada as we celebrate this year’s Scotiabank Giller Prize. Follow our Instagram account @gillerlightbash for contests, games, giveaways, book defenses, and hear from the shortlisted authors! This year the online silent auction will run from October 31st and close on November 8th, 2022. These events have raised over $1,000,000 for Frontier College’s literacy programs delivered coast-to-coast. For more information about this event, visit www.gillerlightbash.ca

19th annual Scrabble for Literacy fundraiser: March 2023.

This year, we are hosting our very first hybrid Scrabble for Literacy event, whereby we will encourage guests to register for a round of Scrabble using the app, Scrabble Go or register to play at the live in-person event hosted in Toronto. The highest scoring player from the online tournament and the highest scoring player from the in-person tournament will have a chance to play with celebrity players, and professional Scrabble ringers during our live event in March 2023. This event promises to be full of fun games, entertainment, contests, and celebrity guests while supporting a great cause. Scrabble for Literacy has raised over $4 million for literacy programs in Canada since it’s inception. For more information about the event, visit www.scrabblenightincanada.ca

Your generosity will be recognized and showcased on our event website, and on Instagram/ Facebook at @Frontiercollege and/or on @GillerLightBash.

Literacy is a vital part of Canada’s recovery.

The global pandemic has made us realize how critically important it is, now more than ever, to have access to literacy and learning support.

Literacy is a vital part of Canada’s recovery. In response to the current COVID-19 public health emergency, we are currently the only national organization offering FREE online literacy programming to children, youth and adults. As communities across the country turn their attention to COVID-19 relief efforts, Frontier College’s literacy programs play a vital part in supporting recovery and ensuring that no one is left behind.

According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, populations vulnerable to COVID-19 include anyone who: has difficulty reading; is facing economic barriers; or is experiencing insecure or inadequate housing. Frontier College programs are designed to help our learners, many of whom face one or more of these barriers, to develop the literacy skills they need to succeed.

Although COVID-19 has made it challenging to deliver our literacy and numeracy programs to learners of all ages, it has also created opportunities to address learners’ needs in new and flexible ways. Since March 2020, we have pivoted many of our traditionally in-person programs to new online platforms, providing learners with the support they need to deal with school closures and the cancellation of extracurricular activities. This has allowed learners to continue their academic upgrading or job readiness training, and to remain connected through community-based learning opportunities. Frontier College needs your support to help us continue this critical work.

On behalf of Frontier College, I would like to thank you for your consideration, and look forward to having you partner with us by transforming lives through literacy.

Many thanks,

Jennifer Chow
