Description

PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center award-winning organization, Manage Emotions Avoid Negativity Girls Inc. (M.E.A.N. Girls Empowerment™), proudly announces its upcoming Girls Health Matters Summit on Saturday, April 6, 2024. This transformative event is set to create waves of positive change in the lives of young girls across Chicago.

About M.E.A.N. Girls Empowerment™: Founded in 2014, M.E.A.N. Girls Empowerment™ is a charitable, tax-exempt 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to preventing bullying, building self-confidence, and supporting the goals of young ladies in high-risk communities on Chicago's Southside. The organization has received acclaim from PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center for its outstanding contributions to the well-being of young individuals.

Event Details: The Girls Health Matters Summit is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 6, 2024, offering a secure and inviting space for 200 girls aged 10-18 from underserved areas in Chicago. The theme for this year's summit is "A Balancing Act: Your Roadmap to Physical, Mental, and Social Wellbeing." The summit will feature insightful discussions, expert speakers, and interactive workshops covering crucial health-related subjects.

Why It Matters: Chicago faces significant health disparities among minority populations, with alarming statistics highlighting the urgent need for intervention. African Americans are 20 percent more likely to experience serious psychological distress than their white counterparts. Shockingly, in 2019, Black female high school students were 60% more likely to attempt suicide than non-Hispanic white females of the same age (source: Mental Health Technology Transfer Center Network). The Girls Health Matters Summit seeks to address these distressing trends by providing young girls with the knowledge, tools, and resources to navigate mental health challenges and make informed decisions about their overall well-being. By addressing these disparities head-on, we aim to foster resilience and empower these young girls to build a healthier future for themselves and their communities.

How You Can Get Involved: Supporting the Girls Health Matters Summit means endorsing a commendable cause and aligning your brand with a movement dedicated to amplifying the voices of young minority girls. Join us in empowering these girls to become leaders and advocates for change.

About the Host: M.E.A.N. Girls Empowerment™ has a proven track record of positive transformation in the girls who participate in its programs. By fostering personal growth and development, the organization aims to equip these girls with the skills and confidence to navigate the challenges of adolescence and beyond. To date, more than 1500+ girls have benefitted from M.E.A.N. Girls Empowerment’s™ programs.
