At Give A Mile, we're on a mission to make sure that no one dies alone. We believe that the cost of travel should never be the reason that loved ones are not together in the final goodbye. That’s why Give A Mile was started to help those without the means to take the trip for that final visit. 

Our vision is not only to help dying people be surrounded by love in their final days, but also to impact the bereaved as they go on to live their lives having benefited from the profound experience of being with someone at the end.  

Established in 2013, Give A Mile was inspired by the passing of Ryan Westerman, a young Calgary father who died at the age of 37 from brain cancer.  In the weeks leading up to his passing, Ryan was surrounded by friends and family and had the opportunity to create moments and make memories that would live on past his final days.  His best friend, Kevin Crowe, was grateful for the opportunity he and others had to spend time with Ryan near the end and found their own lives transformed by the experience.  Kevin also observed that not everyone receiving hospice care had the same experience.  He sadly noted that many of the patients died alone because family and friends were located too far away to make a visit feasible. That experience inspired him to create Give A Mile.  

Give A Mile has proudly funded over 1,000 flights of compassion, impacting thousands of people in 151 countries. To that end, Give A Mile’s U.S. Board of Directors are coming together along with some of our business supporters such as United Airlines and Hyatt Hotels, and members of the local community to raise funds.  Cash donations cover not only the flights, but also travel fees/taxes so the families can focus on what truly matters; being present with their loved ones. 

Our event in June, at Top Golf Schaumburg, will bring together many of our business partners as well as local community members who are invested in our mission. It will feature a silent/online auction and raffle, and all of the proceeds will go towards funding more flights of compassion people in need around the world.
